Biography:

Andrew Segal was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1960.  He grew up in New York, attending public schools there.  In 1978 he graduated 26th out of 527 students at his high school.  His undergraduate studies were at Dartmouth and Bowdoin College. In 1982 he graduated with honors from Bowdoin College.

After working and saving for a few years, Mr. Segal attended Washington College of Law, American University.  While a student American University, the Attorney General of the State of Alabama offered him a position as an Assistant Attorney General upon graduation.

Mr. Segal began his career as an Assistant Attorney General with the Alabama Attorney General’s office. In that capacity he was responsible for criminal cases before the state and federal appellate courts and worked on cases in a number of appellate courts including the United States Supreme Court, the Alabama Supreme Court and the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.  Mr. Segal also worked in the special prosecution unit of the Attorney General’s office were he was involved in a number of high-profile cases.

Following his service at the Attorney General’s office, Mr. Segal moved to Huntsville where he served as a prosecutor in the District Attorney’s Office.  In his capacity in the District Attorney’s Office, he prosecuted all manner of cases, from simple misdemeanor trials to murder.

In 1986, Mr. Segal left the District Attorney’s Office and began his career as a criminal defense lawyer. Since leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Segal has put his talents to work defending hundreds of citizens accused of all manner of crimes.  In private practice, he has handled all manner of criminal trials, including murder, robbery, rape and other sexual crimes as well as drug trafficking sales, distribution and possession.  Mr. Segal has defended a large number of DUI cases and other Circuit, District and Municipal court matters as well.

Mr. Segal has served as a Municipal Judge, and has been an active member of the Municipal Judges Association.

Mr. Segal prides himself on preparation.  It is his belief that preparation is the key to effectively defending his clients and that the more well-prepared a lawyer is, the greater his ability to successfully defend the matter in favor of his client.  In short, there is no substitute for hard work.  If you are accused of a crime, your lawyer’s job is to turn over every rock to make sure you are thoroughly and completely defended
